Female Orgasmic Disorder
Updated:Female Orgasmic Disorder (FOD) is a sexual dysfunction characterized by persistent difficulty, delay, or absence of orgasm in women, despite adequate sexual stimulation and arousal. This condition can cause distress or interpersonal difficulties and is not better explained by another mental disorder, severe relationship distress, or other significant stressors.
Additional Information
FOD can be lifelong (present since the onset of sexual activity) or acquired (developing after a period of normal sexual function). It may be generalized (occurring in all sexual situations) or situational (occurring only in certain circumstances or with certain partners). Treatment often involves a combination of sex therapy, psychotherapy, and sometimes medical interventions.
Causes of FOD can include:
- Psychological factors (e.g., anxiety, depression, past trauma)
- Physical factors (e.g., certain medications, hormonal imbalances)
- Relationship issues
- Cultural or religious beliefs about sexuality
It's important to note that the absence of orgasm alone does not constitute a disorder unless it causes significant distress to the individual.
